Hello!
As a new entry to SamsForce, I would like to introduce a non-profit organization with the mission of making the voice of U.S. Military heard in the upcoming elections. Our basic information is included below and we hope you'll visit our website www.countusin.us to get important information on voting. You won't be heard if you don't vote, so please visit us and VOTE!
We appreciate your support!
And, if you are submitting your absentee ballot application or ballot, PLEASE take a photo of you at your base, on your tank, in uniform and send it to us! We'll show your country that you are making a statement, "Count US In!" Many thanks!
COUNT US IN -- COUNTING ON THE MILITARY VOTE
“This is a very important time for America’s Armed Forces to step up and be heard,” stated Count US In founder, LTC Don Johnson, U.S. Army (ret). Count US In, a non-profit, non-partisan organization has been formed to help ease the difficulties facing the military in using the absentee ballot process.
Count US In, formed by several retired military officers who seek to help facilitate the process, is using its website, www.countusin.us, as an educational and reference resource for the military voters, election commissions and even candidates of all parties, who wish to reach the military voter. As a resource of voting resources, its aim is not only to spread the word that the military vote is important, but to provide the background for voters to make informed decisions.
“We believe that those who are fighting for our rights should be the first to be hear,” states Vice President of Count US In, Gene Moseley, a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel whose previous service included the Pentagon’s Joint Staff. “It is a travesty that our military men and women are bogged-down by a system that does not respond to the logistics of deployment,” he adds, “It will be our effort to educate all the parties involved in the voting process on the unique military circumstances. We aim to facilitate the right to vote for those whose lives are on the line defending it.”
“The military has a reputation for voting conservatively and has hence not been actively valued by most politicians, says Moseley, “But that perception has been shown to be inaccurate—plus, the currently deployed military is a more diverse group—culturally, socially and philosophically. It is imperative as we approach 2008 and the election of a new President and Commander in Chief, that the military voter be more informed and more prepared to vote than ever before.”
Though the absentee ballot process, provided by the Department of Defense, Federal Voting Assistance Program, may function conveniently for residents with multiple homes in the U.S., it is cumbersome and unreliable for members of the military or their families, who may be deployed to various bases, schools or camps around the country or the world. Despite proper and timely application, information, and mailing, ballots of military voters may not be counted due to delays inherent in using a process that was not designed for the wide dispersion and mobility of today’s military.
Count US In has established its headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale as a Florida non-profit corporation with federal tax exempt status. Marilyn DeMartini was named Executive Director and will develop a communications network to facilitate the mission of the organization, “To inspire the participation of the U.S. military in the voting process at all levels, by facilitating information and education and streamlining the absentee ballot process.”
