I put this suggestion on the OPSEC topic thread, but wanted to put it in here too. I've been admins. of many sites for military and one argument I come across ALL THE TIME, is I ask them not to list R and R dates. I consider them to be a form of redeployment dates. Although not listed in the DoD, I still think now is the time we shouldn't be giving out such dates either. People collect as much information as they can on our loved ones and for the safety of our soldiers, I think its super important that R and R be added onto the list of OPSEC. Good idea!.....I'm military, myself, and that's something I may have just let slip through the crack......something as simple as R and R dates......I guess it's best just to stear clear of anything that has a date, in regards to any type of military mission/operation........hopefully people will read this thread and take head that it might be easy for some to slip-up on things like that.... oh, and what are you military sites/ forums are you apart of? One of the reasons myself, and a few others, started samSForce was because....well, I couldn't really find very many military-type forums out there.....how does this one compare to those?......I mean, it all boils down to support....so, if the members participate and help each other out, then I guess wev'e done our job.....i'll be ever-vigilant to try to make sure members aren't ostracized unintentionally like our little thing last night..... is there anything i...we....could do to make samSForce better?

I was with quite a few, I can't even think of the names of them now, I quit having anything to do with them. For the most part they were all about the numbers and less about the people that were in the forums. I think its a great idea to get as many people who have military in their family or make up a military family to get involved on sites, but it loses so much when it becomes about the site and not the members that helped start it. Thats what a lot of them lack. Its like with my FRG leaders, for the first 2 weeks they were great about keeping me informed about my husband and his unit overseas, but emails now are hard to come by, everything is so impersonal, so I think as long as you have enough moderators to this site, where everyone feels apart of something, it will do very well. After all it is the members that are important to have to keep this site going like it is. This site is about support to both military and their loved ones and I think as long as you keep it about those who need it most, this site will continue to be great.

I'll be the first to admit......we have alot to learn.....this is the first time Iv'e ever attempted to build a community like this, and there are just so many facets to it.....it's hard to not get caught up in the temptation for more and more group members and 'numbers'.......but, ultimately it IS about the support.....and, if the support is there, it should naturally grow on it's own.....fortunately, wev'e had alot of decent people come this way......in all the research Iv'e done....from reading blogs and articles, it's all about the foundation that is established........i do think we have something really strong that can be developed, will evolve, and turn into a great resource for military and their supporters.....whether it means finding real material information, or just coming here to talk to someone about a problem theyr'e having....[LT:Blake Lewis - I Got U]

Military and their families need lots of support and I think if you can establish a site where people feel comfortable to come to others about anything involving their role as a military family, it will be a popular place to come to. I do know that I love to surround myself with other military, just because civilians who've never had the experience to be or have someone in their family apart of the military, its really difficult to really open up to them. I know my friends kind of understand what I go through, but they don't fully understand what it is like for me to go a year and 3 months without my husband. Which is why its such a great way to have a community online to come to. Not all of us (during a deployment) live near anyone that is military and when I do find someone who is military or prior military, I find myself more comfortable around that person, because they know what the life is all about. Which is why I think this site will be great for those who are starting out or have been in it for years. We can really learn off each other.

i completely agree...it's difficult...my cousin is in iraq right now...he and i are very close, and it's difficult to go through the holidays w/o him here...heck, it's hard for me to watch OSU play a game and not think about him...it's also difficult too b/c i'm just a girlfriend...and to some that's not important ya know?...it's like "ok well you're not a wife, so you don't know what it's like"....

I think that is ridiculous for people to think. You go through it all, just like a wife, so why wouldn't they think what you're feeling isn't as important. You're away from your boyfriend right now because he's in the Marines and I am away from my husband right now because of the Army. I think its super important to stick together. I have some of the strongest bonds with all military gals, whether they're wives, girlfriends or fiances.
