Please note: APOs and FPOs are not in violation of OPSEC
If you are sending hygiene products and food, make sure you put them in seperate boxes, even though everything is sealed, the food could taste like soap, deodorant, etc.
If you are sending something that could possibly leak, put it in a ziplock bag!!
Pictures, letters and stationary also should be in a ziplock if they are being sent along with the "possibly leaky" product.
If you are sending multiple items, include a list of what those items are, that way they can make sure they got everything they were supposed to.
If you wish to send electronics, videos, dvds, cds, keep the product in the original box or casing and surround it in bubble wrap!
It's NOT a good idea to send pressurized items such as shaving cream and the like.
Chocolate will melt!!
If you are sending something to someone you don't have contact with (random person from adopt a soldier, or another orginazation) and wish to have a reply (confirmation the box was received), put a letter in the box saying you'd like a reply, and send paper for doing so.
Make sure the box is sealed and secure on all sides!! top and bottom!
Keep things small. If you military person is deployed there may not be a lot of room for storage
Don't send anything that will embarrass him/her..i.e. a box that reaks of perfume or has glitter all over it or in it
Send things that will bring "home" to them..such as videos of friends, or if they have children, videos and pics of the kids. not just videos that are made specifically for sending, but candid ones...like a night out or just random things.
Keep them updated!! Send things like the newest Cd of their favorite band or newest movie of their favorite actor or actress, send newspapers, magazines, etc.
SEND ENOUGH FOR THEM TO SHARE!!
