When I started college, I had no idea what I wanted to do, I've switched my major at least twice by now, but you know, I think I've found the right thing for me. I've always been a somewhat religious person. And from some of the things I've experienced in my life, I do believe God has helped me through them. And now I want to repay the favor. When I went and got information about ROTC, the Chaplain Corps struck me as something I would probably want to do. However after I found out more information, and asked around and found out that it requires me to become a priest. This is commitment I'm willing to make, but I'm just not sure if it's something I want to do. I'm leaning towards yes right now, and I've questioned it once and am now re-considering. I've found that if I reconsider something a number of times, usually 3-4 times, it's something I want to do. But I'd like to know what you guys/gals think about the Chaplain Corps.

Just like nursing (my major....finally...)......I think becoming a Chaplain requires a REALLY special person. It's not an easy gig......being a spiritual leader to an entire unit/company. In a deployment, it sometimes seemed like the morale of the unit rested almost entirely on the shoulders of the Chaplain....that's a big responsibility to have. People sought him for advice....to sit down counseling sessions....and, on top of that, he conducted services, etc......you definitely have to be a good listener, and truly, genuinly, care about people and their spiritual/emotional states....and try to come up with little things to help boost morale. I say go for it....you may just find that you like it

By the way, courtesy of the military, I'm going on my 8th year of 'trying' to get my degree.....lol......i take life as it comes, but, now, I'm on my 3rd Major (I FINALLY found one that is for me....nursing....).....and, after a year deployment to afghanistan and a year of training....and service in lousiana and several state mobilizations, i'm finally getting my chance to finish off my degree.....i'm 24 now, but the class i started out as a freshman with has come and gone......im anxious, but ill get there........oh......and, your'e not alone

I think 'samSForce' seriously needs to have a sit down prayer meeting or something like that....lol....but, seriously......with Ashley wanting to join the marines and the chaplain thing......i think we could all use some serious guidance in our lives.....or at least just help with crucial, life-changing, course altering, decisions.... ;D

I hear that! I could definitely use a bit of guidance right now. I think it would be something I'm good at. I've always been called the "listener" by my friends. It's just since I'm an only child, being a chaplain would mean I have to be a priest, and since I don't think it's something I can one day just decide to quit if I wish to get married, I'm thinking about becoming Greek Orthodox Catholic instead of being a Roman Catholic. Like Protestants they both believe in essentially the same things, but there are quite a few differences. I just don't want to sound selfish you know? It's like, I want to serve God, but would it be selfish of me to turn from Roman Catholicism to Greek Orthodox Catholicism because that's one of the things I disagree with the Roman Catholics on?
Plus one other reason I'm thinking about Greek Orthodox is the fact that I'm of Greek decent. At least, half of me is.

it's not selfish at all! i mean we all have our own beliefs, and we each need to follow what we feel is right in our hearts.

And you know, I believe that all of us, no matter what religion, believe in the same God, that's what the Unitarian church believes too, so I guess you could call me partly a Unitarian. However I've been Catholic my whole life, and I intend to keep it that way.
Hi-five for being the only child. Birthdays sure were fun being the only child weren't they?
