Im pretty sure i want to join the military, but im not sure about which branch i ought to join. I dont know why i picked the army forum to post, but i figure i should start someplace. Ive already researched some for the army, but i think im just getting recruiting rhetoric. Got any advice about which branch i should join?

Daboogas94e is the guy to talk to here, he'll help you with everything Army. I was in your position, I'm fairly set on Navy right now, but I'm opening myself to every branch, I like Army too, I mean, it's not fun, it's dirty, it's hard work, and it's something that needs dedication and commitment. My advice, BE CAREFUL with the recruiters, I had to basically tell a couple Navy recruiters to BACK off because they'll tell you to lie about EVERYTHING unless of course you've killed a man or something like that. I should have come more prepared, but I didn't. Bring any medical records when going to see a recruiter, he/she may advise you to lie, or downright instruct you to like mine did. Army is still on my list of branches to join, I just pushed it down the list a bit. It's all about what appeals to you, I've found something in every branch that appeals to me (except for Marines, no offense because I EXTREMELY appreciate what they do, it's just I know I'm not tough enough).
Let me just say one thing about the Army that I know, they have TONS of jobs from what I understand, and are probably the most diverse of any branch, so that's one thing to keep in mind. Personally, I looked at the Navy because my father and grandfather did it, and they do a lot of humanitarian work, and that REALLY appeals to me.
Just do some research on all the branches, and work your way from there, ask your friends, and see if you can talk to as many people who have served in every branch as much as possible, they will be your GREATEST asset in this process. FYI, I've talked to 5 people who have been in the Army or are still in the Army, and all but one said it was one of the greatest experiences they ever had. I have two friends who are in the Navy right now, and they're loving it as well.
Feel free to send me a meesage, and when Daboogas94e posts a reply, then shoot him a message as well. Hope I can be of help to you!

tapkcir, first of all, let me say thank you for your wanting to join the miltary in the first place. it takes a lot just to stand up and say "i want to be a part of the us military.", so thank you for wanting to protect this great nation and all things about it. secondly, i'm not in the military, but i'm from a military family, i have a ton of friends that have served and a bunch still serving. so i've heard stories from all sides of the spectrum. looking at your situation from a non military personnel point of view, i think you should just do as much research on each branch as possible. like david said, talk to as many people as you can as well. when it comes down to it, you are the only one that can make the decision though. i would sugguest making a list of the issues that are most important to you, then look at each branch and how they deal with or accomidate those issues. (school, benefits, etc.) each branch is definantly has their own way of life, though it's still all military and thus, sort of the same. follow your heart, think about the job you'd want to do...and then look at which branch would be more beneficial to you.
no matter which branch you decide though...have no worries because they will MAKE you into what you and they want you to be. for example, if you want to join the USMC, they will MAKE you into a Marine, if you want to be a soldier of the Army, they will MAKE you into a soldier...etc...you have what it takes, and have already made the first step...wanting to join...no matter what you decide, me and the rest of us here at samSForce, are very proud of you! thank you once again.

I agree! talk to many people from all the branches, sit down with a recruiter from every branch as well. Now this is where I will tell you exercise caution, because a recruiter will tell you anything you want to hear to get you to sign. And as far as felonies, they don't care, you can be a convicted criminal and still get in. I know several guys that were arrested and told to either join the military or go to jail. But if you ever have questions, I'm always around
